Ute Hoelscher

Parent Workshop Consultant

Ute has been working in the visual impairment field for more than 25 years.  She studied Special Education for the Blind in Germany and has recently earned her Certificate as an O&M Specialist at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada.  Ute has worked as a coordinator for various schools in Germany and abroad, coordinating the support for visually impaired students in inclusive settings.  She is currently working as second vice principal at the statewide Outreach Center for Visually Impaired in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Ute has been working abroad throughout her career. She wrote her special education thesis on education for the blind in South Africa compared to Germany.  She has worked in the US (California and Hawaii) as Itinerant Teacher and Diagnostic Resource Teacher for the Visually Impaired.  She also went to Ghana to help develop programs in support of young women to develop independence outside of the home. 

Ute has always been interested in supporting children, young students and adults with visual impairments to reach their greatest independence in their daily lives, depending on their individual circumstances.  She is especially interested in working with different cultures since she learned about the need and demand for eduction in the field of visual impairment worldwide. 

Ute is currently working in collaboration with Ahsen and Alan for the development of activities, logistics and structure associated with ETI's Parent Workshop.
